Hurling: as the Hurling Club of MTSU understands it.
Hurling is an ancient sport about 3000 years old give or take a couple thousand years. Either way it is old. It is one of the traditional Irish sports promoted by the GAA. It is a fast paced and rough sport in which the tools of the trade are a ball (called a sliotar (good luck)), and a stick called a hurley (caman). Refer to photo below.

Normally there are fifteen players/positions on each side during game play. In America it is often 13 a side due to the necessity of playing on soccer fields which are smaller than regulation Hurling fields.
Hurling is a sporting tradition that brings out the warrior in each of us. It also brings out the honor and sportsmanship in every player as these qualities are a part of the tradition. World wide Hurling is an amateur sport. With money out of the picture it remains a sacred game played for pride in your city, county, school, and in our case the state of Tennessee.
